Description:

A unique runner-sized carpet by the renowned master Mohammad Seirafian, commissioned for a Kuwaiti residence in the rare Sedr format-typically placed at the entrance of a grand hall or palace. Woven in wool and silk on a silk foundation, the design represents an elegant evolution of classical Isfahan medallion layouts, adapted to suit the vertical proportions of the runner. The refined color palette, balancing deep reds and sky blues with ivory and gold tones, reflects an Art Deco sensibility while maintaining Persian ornamental tradition. Executed with an estimated knot density of 1.4 million knots per square meter, this piece demonstrates the unmatched technical finesse and compositional balance that define Seirafian's legacy. It remains the only known custom runner by Mohammad Seirafian-making it both a rarity and a museum-worthy example of 20th-century Persian court weaving. • Literature: Mohammad Sairafian (1922 - 2021), the second son of the legendary Ostad Agha Reza Seirafian, was the first of his generation to enter the family's weaving tradition. Beginning his career in 1940, he continued to produce carpets of uncompromising quality for over eight decades, establishing himself as one of the most enduring and respected figures in Persian carpet history. From the outset, Mohammad independently sourced his materials-wool, dyes, and designs-from the same suppliers used by his father, ensuring a direct continuation of the original Seirafian standard. His works are celebrated for their refined craftsmanship, fine silk and wool textures, and often subtle yet masterful use of color and form. Among his most iconic contributions is the monumental carpet he donated to the United Nations, a gesture that symbolized both cultural diplomacy and artistic excellence. His pictorial works, especially the famed "Gate of Heaven," are particularly prized by collectors. Many of his early pieces carry only the classic Seirafian signature, marking them as quiet masterpieces within a legendary lineage.
