Description:

signed in Arabic 'Abdulrahman al Muzayan' and dated '2000' (lower left) ink on paper 64 x 49 cm (paper size) Drawn in 2000

  • Provenance: Gallery One, Ramallah.
  • Dimensions: 64 x 49 cm
  • Medium: ink on paper
  • Notes: This work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Gallery One, Ramallah. The present work may at first appear simply a beautiful and well-executed ink on paper. However, to read the work as the artist intended requires knowledge of his complex symbolism. The composition depicts four women dressed in traditional men’s attire. The leading figure proudly displays a palm tree almost pattern-like running the length of her trousers. The palm tree subtly carries the key, while her shirt is decorated in a traditional olive leaf pattern. To her right in the background another figure proudly displays poetry across her robes, once again cleverly concealed in a pattern-like design. Perhaps the most distinctive symbol of all the flags, which are not flags, but the depiction of wind rushing around the stone as it whirls around and around.
